Secret hands are active to save the killers of Hakim Said and Salahuddin: Iqbal Yousufi

KARACHI (PR) — Secret hands have become active to protect the real killers of Hakim Muhammad Said Shaheed and Muhammad Salahuddin Shaheed, the martyred editor of the weekly Takbeer. These elements are busy in efforts to create a situation aimed at instilling doubt and suspicion in the mind of every individual. This statement was made by Iqbal Yousufi, President of the independent journalists' organization, Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA), in a press release. He stated that the conspiratorial elements responsible for the assassination are plotting to save the real killers by creating ambiguities and are planning to pin the blame for the murder on innocent individuals. The President of the Association appealed to the daughter of the martyred Salahuddin and her husband to resolve their domestic dispute through mutual understanding and wisdom, rather than putting on a public spectacle and becoming a cause for public ridicule. He further offered that senior journalists are ready to act as mediators to facilitate a reconciliation between them.

Secret Hands Are Actively Working to Save the Real Killers of Hakeem Muhammad Saeed and Salahuddin: Iqbal Yousufi

Secret hands are actively working to save the real killers of Hakim Saeed and Salahuddin: Iqbal Yousufi

LAHORE (PR) — Secret hands have become active to save the real killers of Hakim Muhammad Saeed Shaheed and Muhammad Salahuddin Shaheed. This statement was made by Iqbal Yousufi, President of the Freelance Journalists Association, in a press release. He emphasized that the tragic martyrdom of Muhammad Salahuddin must not be viewed through the backdrop of the recent dispute involving his daughter and her husband, nor should the government take notice of it in that context. He added that the conspiratorial elements responsible for the assassination are fabricating ambiguities to shield the real perpetrators and are planning to pin the blame on innocent individuals.

Historical Significance and Background

This clipping stands as a crucial testament to a highly volatile period in Pakistan's journalistic and political history. The renowned philanthropist, scholar, and founder of Hamdard Laboratories, Hakim Mohammed Saeed, was assassinated in Karachi on October 17, 1998. Years prior, on December 4, 1994, the fearless journalist and pioneering editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine Takbeer, Muhammad Salahuddin, was targeted and killed outside his office.

The bold stance taken by the President of the Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA), Iqbal Yousufi, came at a time when deep-state actors and vested interest groups were attempting to dilute these high-profile murder investigations. By attempting to reframe a targeted assassination as a domestic or family dispute, the state apparatus sought to divert public attention and media pressure. Yousufi's timely intervention publicly warned the government against becoming complicit in this cover-up and demanded that the "secret hands" be exposed, ensuring the focus remained on bringing the actual masterminds to justice.

Colombo Moot Slates India, Pakistan, Nepal for Interference

Colombo moot slates India, Pakistan, Nepal for interference

THE representatives of journalists organizations of Saarc countries have accused the governments of India, Pakistan and Nepal of their alleged interference in the internal affairs of each other.

The representatives of Saarc countries who assembled in Colombo, Sri Lanka, have aired their reservations and expressed their resentment over the sorry state of affairs prevailing in these countries. Besides, the representatives comprising mostly of freelance journalists, the participants of the conference have also portrayed the gross violation of human rights in these countries. The opening ceremony of the conference was performed by the president of Sri Lanka while the 2nd session was opened by information minister of Sri Lanka.

The conference was attended by Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Maldives and other countries. 21 representatives from these countries were invited to attend the conference. Representatives from Singapore and General Secretary of International Federation of Journalists, Aidan White, also attended the conference.

Speaking on the occasion, President of Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association, Iqbal Yousufi accused India of harassing visiting journalists after issuing them visa. In support of his contention, he quoted the arrest of a Pakistani journalist & editor of a monthly magazine, Muhammad Masood Azhar, who was physically tortured after arrest. The journalist is still missing. He said that this is the worst example in the diplomatic history of the world that valid visa & passport holder was badly torture & is missing but Indian administration is silent. Yousufi pointed out that Indian journalists visiting Pakistan have never even been questioned, leave alone of being physically tortured.

He further stressed that if any journalist's credentials seem doubtful the Indian Embassy should not issue him a visa. To net the journalists like this after issuing them visa is the worst kind of diplomatic gangsterism. On Yousufi's protest, the Indian journalists attending the conference assured to take up the matter with their government. The speech of Pakistani representative was hailed and the demand was fully supported by the representative of Saarc countries attending the conference. The conference continued for 5 days in Colombo. During the conference, human rights, regional problems and affect of local conditions on journalism were discussed by intellectuals of Sri Lanka.

At the end of the moot, Colombo declaration was issued, based on the recommendations of delegates in the conference. —Correspondent
